- We are proud of our sustainability work and constantly strive to develop. That's why we are so happy that our consumers see our commitment. By spreading knowledge and offering sustainable products, we hope to help our consumers create sustainable homes and gardens," says Fredrik Dahl, Commercial Director at Plantagen.
The Plantagen works with sustainability in several different areas. Biodiversity and pollinating insects have been a core issue for several years that permeates the entire operation. Together with Pollinate Sweden, Plantagen works to spread knowledge about what pollinating insects need to survive. By developing a larger assortment with the label Good for Bees, it is easier for consumers to choose plants that are good for pollinators.
Reducing the use of plastic is another goal. Plantagen aims for as many pots as possible to eventually be biodegradable. Already today, there is a selection of plants in the stores that come with biodegradable pots. The pot, made from sunflower seed shells, can be planted directly into the ground and the roots will grow through the pot.

– We want sustainability to be an integrated part of our business, all the way from seed to compost. It's a long journey and we are far from finished with our sustainability work, but we have come a long way, says Fredrik Dahl.
In the fall of 2022, Plantagen conducted a climate footprint analysis to gain insight into the company's carbon emissions and what can be done to reduce them. One measure that has been taken is to work on finding producers closer to Plantagen's stores to reduce transport emissions. Another goal that has been set is to reduce energy consumption by 20 percent by 2025 and implement measures to reduce waste.
