Small plants with edible crops
Prepare for the summer vegetable harvest
Will you be eating fennel, broccoli, pumpkin or kale this summer, you should start preparing with cultivated plants during the spring. If you skip the stage of sowing seeds, you save time and it will be easier for you to succeed. When the time comes to plant the growth outdoors, it is important to choose the right place and good soil, so that the edible plants continue to grow.
Fennel - should be placed in a sunny, warm place in well-drained and sandy soil, preferably mixed with sand.
Pak choi - thrives in sunny places in nutrient-rich, well-drained and clayey soil.
Swiss chard - tolerates both sun and partial shade, but prefers clayey and nutrient-rich soil. Can withstand winter with winter cover.
Broccoli - needs nutrient-rich, clayey soil and thrives in the sun with regular watering.
Leeks - want sun and thrive in deep, nutrient-rich and moist soil with lime.Kale - easy favorite with a long harvesting period. Thrives in the sun, preferably in nutrient-rich and well-drained soil.
Tips: Prepare the plants for outdoor life by carrying them out and letting them be watered in outdoor climate for about a week. Let them stay outside a little longer each day and place them outdoors when they are ready. Use a fleece cover as protection in the beginning if you don't have time to prepare the plants for outdoor life. A fleece cover also protects small plants from pests throughout the growing season.
